HUMAN SUSTAINABILITY BY HON. OBINNA ANYANWU AS HE EMPOWERS 150 PHYSICALLY CHALLENGED PERSONS.




The Executive Chairman of Etche Local Government Area, Honorable Obinna Anyanwu (JP)  has carried out an empowerment/outreach programme aimed at giving out mobility aids to persons living with disabilities in the society.

The distribution of wheelchairs and clutches to the less privileged persons within the five clans in Etche held on the 28th of November, 2018 at the local government council secretariat, Okehi was a great succor to the recipients.

Speaking after handling over the items to the recipients, Hon. Obinna Anyanwu said it was part of his administration’s empowerment programmes aimed at empowering the people for self employment and sustenance in the wake of their challenges. 

He said: “People often take the ability to move for granted, forgetting that with a disability, even the smallest step can prevent an individual living with disability from accessing all parts of his/her life. Being mobile enhances a person’s ability to learn, interact with others, earn a living and participate in the community”.










The chairman added that most of the beneficiaries, based on investigations, had the penchant to develop and apply their God-given talents and skills to engage in profitable ventures in order to make out a living without depending on anybody, but lack basic facilities to actualize their dreams.

“Part of the reason for giving these items is to discourage them from street begging. Most of them beg because they are not doing anything. They stay in one place to beg for a living because they cannot move about.
“Many of them have talents and skills that are buried in them because they can not move about to do anything for themselves. But with the mobile facilities that we have given to them, they can move about to do something and help themselves”. He said. 

Also speaking, Senior Special Adviser on Physically Challenged Matters to the Rivers State Governor, Tekena Altraide charged the beneficiaries to put the items to good use. He also advised other local government chairmen to emulate the good works of Hon. Obinna Anyanwu. 

The beneficiaries of the programme expressed their deep gratitude to Hon. Anyanwu, as they were overwhelmed with joy to receive required aid which they never had access to due to financial situations. They enthused that it had made them proud of their conditions by putting smiles on their faces and urged him to keep the flag of its philanthropist and empowerment programmes flying. 

The empowerment programme had in attendance Etche Council Secretary, Hon. Emma Nwauwa, Chief of Staff, Chief Promise Nwankwo, Chief Protocol, Cyril Nweke, Nineteen Ward Councillors, Supervisory Councilors, Special Assistant on Disabilities, Precious Dike amongst others.

THE TRUTH BEHIND THE MURDER OF A NIGERIAN STUDENT ( KENNEDY ) IN FAMAGUSTA NORTHERN CYPRUS

Nigerian Student Murdered by Locals in Northern Cyprus  A Nigerian university student of was killed on Wednesday, reportedly by locals in the Famagusta area. Kennedy Taomwabwa, 28, who was a student at  Eastern Mediterranean University, was reportedly abducted from the city centre by a group of people. Taomwabwa was returned home and killed by a group of eight locals, including three women, according to the police. His body was found by the police near a pond outside the city. An examination revealed that he had been beaten to death. Three suspects, who were allegedly involved in the murder, were detained by the police. In their testimony, one of the suspects said they witnessed the murder even though they did not take part in it. Police said there were five other suspects, adding that the motivation of the  murder was still unclear.                                         Meanwhil university students protested the murder of their friend, chanting that they wanted justice.

COLLAPSED 7-STOREY BUILDING:  GOVERNOR WIKE INAUGURATES JUDICIAL COMMISSION OF INQUIRY  Rivers State Governor, Nyesom Ezenwo Wike has inaugurated the Judicial Commission of Inquiry to investigate the Collapsed 7-Storey at Woji road in New GRA, Port Harcourt.  The governor also inaugurated the Judicial Commission of Inquiry into the management and affairs of Integrated Medical Industries Limited (Auto Disable Syringe) . The governor performed the inauguration/swearing of the two Judicial Commissions of Inquiry  on Tuesday at the Government House Port Harcourt. Governor Wike charged the Judicial Commission of Inquiry on the Collapsed 7-Storey to identify the owner of the building and the holder of the certificate of occupancy.  He charged them: "To ascertain/identify the owner, developer and/or holder of the certificate of occupancy over and in respect of all that piece or parcel of land situate and lying at 119 Woji Road, (Plot 80), GRA Phase 2, Port H
