HIS EXCELLENCY, CHIEF DR. SIR IKEDI OHAKIM VISIT TO TURKISH REPUBLIC OF NORTHERN CYPRUS FULL DETAILS.

His Excellency's visit to TRNC was a surprising visit to the Nigerian community in TRNC.

Many didn't believe that a man of such reputation could have visited the country but 

how ever when it was confirmed that he was actually arriving on that very good Sunday afternoon, the Igbo community and Nigerians at large gave him a kind and unforgettable welcoming at the airport led by Comrade Thankgod Uche N and Comrade David Alozie. This two also ensured that his safety was guaranteed.

Dr. Ikedi visited the two Universities owned by Dr. Günsel Suat (Near East University in Lefkosa and Kyrenia University in Girne).

He also visited the Near East University hospital which ranked as one of the best in the world with latest medical facilities.

He also went to the University of Kyrenia of which he was taken to the Aviation unit and Marine unit in the University.

Memorandum of Understanding (MOU) was signed by Dr. Gunsel Suat and His Excellency chief dr. Sir Ikedi Ohakim.

He intend contributing massively to the lives of Imo State citizens in educational sector by developing this international scholarship scheme in Imo State.

During one of His Excellency’s interviews, he stated that the happiness and good welfare of his people is his priority and that he will go to any  length to ensure that he brought back happiness, peace and unity in Imo State.

His Excellency chief Dr Sir Ikedi Godson Ohakim gave Ndi Imo quality and quantitative education and Imo was ranking #1 followed by Anambra. But today Ndi rescue mission have destroyed that which he laboured for.

My visit to Dr Suat Gunsel, founder Gunsel group/ Near East University

Northern Cyprus:

Cyprus has a rich history behind it. The country is said to be more than 5000 years old and featured prominently in the bible.

The only similarity it has with Nigeria is that it got her independence in 1960. It is worthy of note that mosquitoes and indeed malaria was eradicated from the country by the British colonialists immediately after world war 1 using eucalyptus technology. The present generation of Cypriots has never experienced malaria, poliomyelitis, measles etc.

It has a population of about 500,000 with, as i am told, 90% of this population, graduates. Its educational standard is top notch. For example graduates of medical sciences, engineering etc from Near East University can practice even in USA without further examination.

Cyprus is reputed as one of the cleanest and safest countries in the world, a record Imo once held in Nigeria.

Tourism including educational and medical tourism is its highest foreign exchange earner.

This aspect was made possible by people like my host Dr Suat Günsel. Dr.  Günsel is the founder of Near East University and Kyrenia Universities with students population of more than 40,000 including over 2,000 from Nigeria. For example, Rabiu Kwankwanso as Governor of Kano State during the oil boom of 2011-2015 sponsored more than 100 Kano students and also attracted scholarships for others in Near East University.

Dr Suat Günsel is the founder of the famous Dr Suat Günsel hospital in TRNC reputed to being one of its kind in the world offering nuclear medicine and ranked amongst the first 5 in the world.

His Near East University for example has students population from 110 countries in the world.

Dr Günsel has offered a record of more than 10,0000 scholarships including some students from Nigeria. I was also proudly hosted by the Nigerian students union of near east university led by ebullient Mohamed from kano state and Igbo Amaka cultural association in Cyprus.

Pleasantly Dr Günsel has offered to extend his educational philanthropy to Imo citizens for graduate and post graduate studies in support of Dr Ikedi Ohakim quality education program and for handing over schools back to original owners in his first tenor as Governor of Imo State.

The collaborative scholarship scheme (in some courses 50% and in some others free) of course will be through a competitive examination to be conducted by the Universities. Courses to be offered include; medical Sciences (Nursing & Medicine) Marine Studies, Architecture, Electrical/ Electronics, Aerospace Engineering etc. Marine  studies has 100% job guarantee on graduation. Post graduate studies will include business management and economics.

By July 2018, Günsel all electric cars named after him will roll out from his automobile factory in TRNC reputed to being one of the biggest and most innovative in the world. Payment for 5 years production had already been received by the company.

I visited the plant, the hospitals, the two universities, the supper computer centre, the robotic center and the world class library and signed the mou.

It must also be noted that near east university ladies basket ball team is the european defending champion.

Dr Günsel of course is recognized by forbes as one of the richest people in the world.

A reciprocal visit is expected soonest.

The scholarship scheme is targeted at less privileged but brilliant students. The scholarship/aptitude test will be widely publicized and will be free. Imo citizens deserve the very best and god willing, this will be the start of greater things to come. God bless you.
